Permute Both Layers (PBL)

Finally, we permute both layers (PBL). This may sound intimidating, but there are only five cases, shown below. The top and bottom layers are shown from the perspective above the cube. You may need to use a U move to match one of the cases before using an algorithm.

Top-down view of a 2x2 layer with a double arrow pointing up and down between the two corners on the right, meaning those two corners swap
(top)
Top-down view of a 2x2 layer with no arrows, meaning its corners are already in the right places relative to each other
(bottom)
(R U2 R' U') (R U2 L' U) (R' U' L)

Alternates

  • x U2 (R' U' R U2) (L' U R' U' R2)

*T-Perm is also possible

Top-down view of a 2x2 layer with a diagonal double arrow from the top left corner to the bottom right corner, meaning those two opposite corners swap
(top)
Top-down view of a 2x2 layer with no arrows, meaning its corners are already in the right places relative to each other
(bottom)
(R U' R' U') F2 (U' R U R' D) R2

*Y-Perm is also possible

Top-down view of a 2x2 layer with a horizontal double arrow across the bottom two corners, meaning those two corners swap
(top)
Top-down view of a 2x2 layer with a horizontal double arrow across the bottom two corners, meaning those two corners swap
(bottom)
(R2 U' R2' U2) (F2 U' R2)
Top-down view of a 2x2 layer with a horizontal double arrow across the top two corners, meaning those two corners swap
(top)
Top-down view of a 2x2 layer with a diagonal double arrow from the bottom left corner to the top right corner, meaning those two opposite corners swap
(bottom)
(R U' L) U2 (R' U L')

Alternates

  • y2 (R' U R' F2) (R F' R)
  • y2 (R' U L') (U2) (R U' L)
Top-down view of a 2x2 layer with a diagonal double arrow from the top left corner to the bottom right corner, meaning those two opposite corners swap
(top)
Top-down view of a 2x2 layer with a diagonal double arrow from the top left corner to the bottom right corner, meaning those two opposite corners swap
(bottom)
R2' F2 R2

Three cases correspond to one of the above cases after rotating the cube with x2:

Top-down view of a 2x2 layer with no arrows, meaning its corners are already in the right places relative to each other
(top)
Top-down view of a 2x2 layer with a double arrow pointing up and down between the two corners on the right, meaning those two corners swap
(bottom)
x2 (R U2 R' U') (R U2 L' U) (R' U' L)
Top-down view of a 2x2 layer with no arrows, meaning its corners are already in the right places relative to each other
(top)
Top-down view of a 2x2 layer with a diagonal double arrow from the bottom left corner to the top right corner, meaning those two opposite corners swap
(bottom)
x2 (R U' R' U') F2 (U' R U R' D) R2
Top-down view of a 2x2 layer with a diagonal double arrow from the top left corner to the bottom right corner, meaning those two opposite corners swap
(top)
Top-down view of a 2x2 layer with a horizontal double arrow across the bottom two corners, meaning those two corners swap
(bottom)
x2 (R U' L) U2 (R' U L')

A final U move may be necessary to solve the cube after using these algorithms.
